Euromos

About 15 km north of Milas (on the main road of Milas – Soke) lie the mines of ancient cities) Euromos City was built quite early – ok. 6th century. p.n.e., but it became more important in the 4th century. p.n.e., when the Mausolus joined them to the kingdom of Caria. Then Euromos became – right after Mylas, the most important city in Karia. The best-preserved monument here is the temple of Zeus, which can be visited at. 8.30 – 17.30, introduction: 1,5 USD, students: 0,7 USD.

Built in 1. half. 2nd century, represents the Corinthian style and to this day there are still sixteen beautiful columns supporting the entablature. The base of the temple measures 27×14,5 m. There were originally eleven on the sides, and six columns at the front and at the rear. Additional columns were in the pronaos (in the number of four) and at the rear of the cella (two). Inscriptions informing about the founders of the building have been preserved on most of the columns. They were wealthy townspeople, mostly officials, who thus wished to convey their name to eternity. The four columns without grooves indicate the fact, that the temple was never finished. A little further north of the building there are remains of the mighty city walls, therefore it was situated outside of them.

Because Euromos is right on the main road, it cannot be overlooked. If we're going from the north and we still have enough time, to see the monument (and it's really worth it), just ask the driver, to stop. The ruins are on the left side of the road. After visiting them, go to the main road and catch a dolmus or a chance to visit Milas. If we're in Milas, We will drive up to the ruins with a dolmus heading for Sóka (ok. 0,4 USD, 15 min).
