About 18 km west of Kastamonu, we wsi Kasaba. there is a unique monument – wooden Mahmut Bey Camii. This is one of the most beautiful mosques in Turkey, originated in 1366 r. by order of Mahmut Bey of the Candaroglu family. We will scarcely step through the wooden doors to the temple, and its interior will delight us with its uniqueness. Wood, the decoratively carved ceiling rests on four wooden columns. The galleries are also beautiful. There are still traces of paint on the columns. interesting fact is, that not a single nail was used to build the mosque. The outer walls were built of stone joined with mortar.
