Milas

After leaving the museum, let's turn right, where we can see an old stone bridge over the river, which is mostly dry in summer. Having crossed the bridge, we go left, towards the mosque with the red minaret. It is Orhan Bey Camii built in 1330 r. The little one, the stone building was in the twentieth century. a bit reworked, which took away his original originality. Having passed the mosque on the right, we go straight and take the first street to the right. Not far on the left you will see Baltali Kapi (Gate with an Ax). This well-preserved gate comes from I.. half. I w., that is, it was created during the rebuilding of the city after the devastation caused by the exploits of the infamous Labienus. Its name comes from the double-edged ax, which was carved on the arch on the other side of the structure. The gate was the beginning of the holy road, followed by the procession from Mylasa to the Temple of Zeus in Labranda (ok. 15 km north of Milas).

Let's go back to Orhan Bey Camii and cross the bridge to the right after the mosque. This way we will reach the intersection with Linnó Cad. Going straight through the crossword, we will enter the street, where we will see the Uzunyuva signpost. This is the first street on the left, leading to the ruins of the temple of Zeus. Only the podium remained after her, a piece of wall and a fluted Corinthian column, where storks have made a nest. The ruins are dated to 2. half. I w. p.n.e.

Having returned to the main street, we head left, we pass the post office, then ruined on the right, Ottoman house on a vast intersection-square, to finally come to Belen Camii (17th century), on the back of which is belediye (municipal authority building). On the left side there is an Ottoman han (probably from the 17th century) used by the locals to this day. Probably never renovated, it is a pitiful sight, and wonderful at the same time (especially inside) thanks to the specific atmosphere of past centuries. Many ancient elements were used in the construction, such as marble steps leading to rooms on the first floor or columns supporting the upper floor. Some of them certainly come from the temple of Zeus.

If we go straight after leaving the hanu, it's winding streets after approx. 200 m we will reach the most magnificent mosque in the city – Firuz Bey Mosque, erected in 1374 r. On the complex (college) consisted of imaret (kitchen for the poor), madrasah and other buildings. The mosque itself was built on the plan of the inverted letter T, with a prayer room, which is flanked by two smaller rooms. All three halls are covered with domes, the largest of which, of course, rests over the central room. The portico is supported by four pillars, and its central arcade is decorated with interesting carvings. Also, the portal leading to the interior of the temple is accompanied by Arabic inscriptions. Mihrab and mimber are made of marble. Half of the mosque walls are covered with marble, with different colored plates.

Drive, orientation, connections

You can get to Milas directly by minibus from Sóke (2,5 USD, 1,5 time.) or as planned, by dolmus or hitchhiking from Didym. If we are traveling from the south side, we can get to Milas from Bodrum without any problems (all buses on the Bodrum route pass through Milas – the rest of Turkey) albo Marmaris.

The bus station is situated far from the city, so if we came by the exchange bus, we have to get on the dolmus going to the center (Poison Center). Wanting to get there on foot (ok, 1,4 km), we have to leave the station to the right and head slightly uphill, wzdłuz Nazmi Akdeniz Cad., which will lead us to Menteje Cad. The weekly big market is held here. Still going straight, we will come (passing a supermarket stylized as an ancient temple) to the intersection with Gumuskesen Cad . Wlewo (on the east) from it lies the city center.

From Milas we will get mainly to Bodrum, Sóke or Marmaris, but all buses to major cities in western Turkey also depart from here, which start their course in Bodrum.

A bath costs money here 2,5 USD, washing the same, a for complete (with massage) we will pay 8,5 USD. Women can use the facility only on Saturday from. 11.00 -16.00. We will get to the bathhouse, going from the intersection of Kadiaga Cad. z Cumhuriyet Cad.. a narrow street towards Ulu Camii, that is to the northeast.
