Trabzon – Communication,accommodation

Trabzon is the most important town to the east of the Black Sea coast, that's why a lot of buses go here from almost every corner of the country. According to the proposed route, we will come here from Erzurum (7 USD, 4 time.) lub Ayder (with a change in Pazara, together 3-4 time., depending on the waiting time for the bus in Pazara, 5-6 USD), but you can also get here from Ankara (15 USD, 13 time.) or even Istanbul (24 USD, 19 time ).

The bus station is far from the center (3 km to the east), to which we are probably going through the service (dolmuszem provided by the shipping company). If the carrier fails to provide transportation, we can get to the city by Imusz or by city bus, which we will board at the stop on the main road Rize-Trrabzon, and we'll get there, going south from the station (left). We get into the vehicle with the inscription Park or Meydar. After a few minutes of driving, get off at Ataturk Alam (also called Meydani Park), a small park located in the very center of the city. To the west of it, there are two main streets of Trabzon – Long Street. and the parallel Kahramanmaras Cad. On stepping on any street going north of the park, we will come to the coast and the port (this one is a little further east). Finally, Uzun Sok, behind the first car, the old quarter of Ortahisar stretches out, surrounded by the remains of historic walls, the airport is approx. 6 km east of the city. Planes from Ankara and Istanbul land there every day. Tickets are sold at the THY office at Ataturk Alam, in its south-west corner, at the intersection of Gazipaja Cad. i Uzun Sok., Meydan Park Across 37/A, tel.: (462) 322 22 19, fax: (462) 326 64 34. We will also book tickets and buy them in Afacan Tur. If we don't get to the airport from the office by a specially prepared bus, then we'll get there by Imusz departing from a small square to the north of the park, next to Sumer Sok.

We can reach many Turkish cities by bus, those closer and farthest. Of course, the most common connections are maintained along the Black Sea coast, but getting south is no problem, to the heart of Anatolia, or even southeast (Wan). (Details of the most important connections are listed in the table on the previous page). We can get to the station by a dolmus departing from the north-eastern tip of Ataturk Alam, from the bus stop in front of the town hall, where the Metro office is also located, and other companies are located nearby (m.in. Ulusoy).

We will take the ferry mainly to Istanbul (the ship leaves every Wednesday, the trip lasts until Friday, costs approx. 25 USD per seat, and for the bed 45 USD) and Sochi, Russia (only in summer).

Accommodation

Accommodation base in Trabzon is well developed, but it doesn't, that it is focused only on tourists. Due to the ubiquitous prostitutes and their clientele, many hotels are hidden brothels, therefore not wanting to sleep in one of them, let's ask at the reception just in case: natasha yok? (Natasha is not there?), to make sure, that we will definitely be alone. Most cheap hotels are concentrated around Karaglanoglu, Iskele oraz Guzelhisar Cad., but here, too, the suspects are the most numerous.

The cheapest (and the surest) an option in Trabzon is an overnight stay in the monastery of Sankta Maria Katolik, Sumer Sok. 26, from Ataturk Alam towards the sea, tel.: (462) 321 2192 – fee at your discretion (in the form of a donation). You spend the night in multi-bed rooms, but it is very clean and comfortable. Always hot water in the shower. Given these favorable conditions, we should give for the night at least 5-6 USD, but no one will say a bad word to us, if we donate less.
